Focus Exercises

Here are a couple of focus exercises to help you build your focus muscle.

1 - Stare at a spot: Sit on a chair and set a timer for 5 minutes. During that time, stare at a spot on the wall. Look only at this spot until the timer goes off. You can think or feel whatever you want, but you must be able to keep starting at the spot. After you're comfortable with 5 minute, work up to 6, 7, and eventually 10 minutes. Going any longer than 10 minutes isn't necessary.

2 - Stare at a candle: Sit on a chair in the dark. Light a candle and place it six feet away from you (on a safe and stable surface). Stare at the base of the candle as long as you possibly can. Measure how much time this takes. This exercise is uncomfortable and may make your eyes water. The real purpose of this exercise is to compel you to focus under mild stress. Take all safety precautions for this exercise.
